Okay, just to be clear, Amazon Prime Gaming is very different from Amazon Luna, which I reviewed earlier on this channel, so in this video, we're going to take a look at Amazon Prime Gaming and see if the loot and the games that it offers you as a Prime member are worth your time, and it all starts right now. Let's check out Amazon Prime Gaming together. I really like when you can get games for free, and if you're an Amazon Prime member, you already have access to Amazon Prime Gaming, as it's free with your Prime membership. It has two different sections.
Is it worth getting Prime Gaming?
The first one is based around getting loot for the games that you already have, and they're primarily on console and PC, and the second is being able to download and play games from Amazon Prime Gaming on your Windows-based PC. Let's check out the loot section first. I own Star Wars Squadrons on Xbox One, and at the time of this recording, they're offering two free helmets to download into the game, so let's check out how that's done from the main menu of Amazon Prime Gaming.
Click on Learn More to drill in. From here, you'll get the details on the loot that you're trying to get. In this case, it's going to be two helmets that go with Star Wars squadrons, and I'll be applying them to the Xbox One version of my Xbox One X. Whether it's a loot or a game that you came for, click on claim now to redeem the item that you came for. Sending things from Amazon Prime Gaming on the internet to your video game console doesn't work through osmosis or magic; it works by linking accounts together.
How do I get Prime Gaming for free?
So in this case, you'll have to link an e-mail account to your Amazon Prime Gaming account so that they can talk to each other. Click on the link to the game account to continue from here. You'll be prompted to link your EA account to your Amazon account once you read over the information about what's going to be shared between the two accounts. Click on Allow to Continue, and you'll be prompted to enter your ea access user ID and password on the ea website, which you can do right here. Then you'll get a final confirmation screen showing your ea access account login ID, and then you'll see your Amazon Prime Gaming login ID, and it'll ask if you want to link the two together.
Panther Ryan's my son, and he's a Carolina Panthers fan, but that's our account. Then you can just click on the link in order to seal the deal. You'll get a confirmation message that the accounts are linked, and then all you have to do is go back to gaming like you normally do from here. Just click the return to Amazon box, and you'll get a pop-up message saying that if everything goes according to plan, the next time you boot up your game, you'll have access to the loot from Amazon Prime Gaming within the game, so let's go do that. Let's fire up the Xbox One X and check out the Star Wars squadrons.
How do you get Prime Gaming rewards?
I never get tired of that cool boot-up screen. Alright, we're inside Star Wars squadrons, and the first message at the bottom for notifications is new star fighters and custom matches. Well, that's not what we're looking for. Let's move on to the next one, Prime Gaming Rewards. Ah, there it is, so it did in fact send over the helmets. Let's go load them up from inside the hanger. Let's go over to the customize pilot module. I'm going to scroll over to it and then select it with the button to drill in. Inside customize pilot, we'll need to go over to the helmet section. The one that we're looking for is called vibrant focus.
So in the helmet section, let's scroll around until we find the one called vibrant focus. What you want to take note of is that it may not be at the very beginning or very end of the list of helmets, so scrolling through the different choices of helmets, let's see if we can't find the one we're looking for. It's like when Red Leader was trying to blow up the Death Star—almost there, and there it is. It has the Ruby Red visor, and it's a unique gift from Amazon Prime Gaming to add value to your game, so the loot is kind of cool and all, but what about actually getting the free games? Let's go check out how that's done.
Okay, before we start downloading and playing games on this PC, let me just show you the specs on it because it's not overly spec-heavy, and that's specifically why I wanted to use this machine to show you some of the games. It has an i5 processor, 12 gigs of memory, a solid state drive, and an NVIDIA 750 video card, so the specs aren't overly heavy to find out whether or not these games are reasonable to run on lower-spec machines and higher-spec machines. Before you're able to download and play games from Amazon Prime Gaming, you will have to install the Amazon Prime Gaming app on your computer. It'll require you to not just install it but log back in with your credentials once again.
Let's try downloading a game. I'm using a Windows-based PC, but this game actually also came out on consoles. It's called Close to the Sun. it's a first person horror game from here you need to claim the game to download it just slide over to the claim button and click on it with the mouse pointer to start downloading the game you'll be prompted for the location where you want to install the game on your hard drive.
It looks like in the video here that you have to click on it to do it but it just happened to be the exact timing that it populated by itself now click on install to the game and hurry up and wait because it takes quite a while to download a game from this service onto your hard drive but with the power of editing this download is already done now you can close out of amazon gaming and go right into the game and launch it we put a shortcut on the desktop so you can launch it right from here.
Just like that the game launches up Remember, this is running on slightly less than ideal gaming PC hardware, so you're going to see a little bit of chop throughout the game. Don't sweat it. It's not so much a review of the game as of the service that provided it, and after a brief introduction and starting a new game, it's underway, so the service did in fact provide the exact game that it promised, which is pretty cool, so what's the verdict? How does Amazon Prime Gaming stand up?
Well, if it were a paid service, I would say that it's probably less of a value, but since it's free, if you're already an Amazon Prime member, it's a pretty good deal. It delivers on exactly what it said it would do, which is to add loot to games on consoles and to allow you to download and play games on your PC, although there's really no way for them to get around it. The constant linking of accounts and downloading does diminish with experience.
